Riverside College – Educating the Total Child

Riverside College is a co-educational Day and Boarding secular
institution established under divine vision and a deep sense of responsibility
to offer functional and dynamic education within the realities and challenges
of this contemporary Nigeria. The College recognizes the uniqueness of each
child, spotlights and catalyzes it to evolve gradually and steadily. Students are not just admitted but are made
to be the best, with high priority given to academic excellence, creativity,
discipline, morals, fear of God, diligence, honesty, and integrity.

The school has a mission to educate the total
child. This is achieved by a proficient administrative structure, an avalanche
of seasoned educational consultants and a team of professional teachers trained
in the latest educational pedagogy.

The students are hubs around which all of our activities revolve. Their future is our main concern; hence the learning environment is so flexible that teachers closely monitor the achievements of the students. Academic
Methods

Riverside College simultaneously runs
both the British and Nigerian curricula. The teaching team consists
of teachers who are qualified to teach both curricula effectively and
efficiently. Students are encouraged to partake in the British curriculum as it
is student-friendly. The textbooks for this programme are designed such that
students can study on their own without the teachers’ assistance. Suffice it to
say that the textbooks are student-oriented.

The Nigeria curriculum prepares students
for SSCE (Senior Secondary Certificate Examination), which is organized by
WAEC and NECO, and BECE (Basic Education Certificate Examination)
for Junior Secondary School.

The British curriculum prepares students
for Checkpoint Examination which is
conducted during the 9th year of junior secondary school, and IGCSE (International General Certificate of
Secondary Education) which is written in the 11th year of senior secondary
school. Both examinations are organized by CIE (Cambridge International
Examination). The examinations take place in May/June and October/November
respectively just like the Nigerian examinations.

Examinations at Riverside College are
computer-based (CBE). It is pertinent, therefore, that each student has a mini
laptop for this. All the students mandated to offer Information and
Communication Technology (ICT) as this prepares them for professional courses
such as Oracle, Java, etc.

Achievements
and Awards

Riverside College was awarded the British Council International School Award (2017 – 2020). It’s a
benchmarking scheme that accredits schools as having outstanding support for nurturing
global citizenship in young people and enriching teaching and learning. It was
introduced in the year 2000 and over 3000 schools from 15 countries across the
world including the UK have joined. Schools in Nigeria joined the network in
2013.
