The much-awaited Inter-house Sports of
Sunnydale School finally lived up to expectations as the event was energetic
from the get-go to the very end. Despite the extra sunny day at Sunnydale, the
crowd enjoyed the pomp and pageantry of the event; the children not in the
slightest bit overawed by the stage set and put forth a very enjoyable and
enviable performance all day long.

Right from the blast of the whistle, the
inter-house teams wowed the crowd in spectacular fashion through several unique
styles of Marching, which they employed during the March past celebrations. Some
of the dance steps had cultural linkages to several African cultures like the Zulu
tribe as well as indigenous Yoruba performances depicting Sango, the god of
fire and thunder gulping down flames of fire.

Inter-house team names amazingly
deviated from the use of the usual “Red house, Blue house” taglines which had
become boring and overused but instead used catchphrases that were symbolic to
the strength some animals and creatures possessed to make each house name
feared and have an eerie feeling of being supreme. Unsurprisingly, the crowd
fell in love with the new use of house names – Flaming Flamingo, Blue Whale, Flying
Horse, and Green Lion –  and were even
more stunned at the performances that matched the bravado of their names.

The sporting event featured mind-blowing
and mind-boggling activities that would test the fitness, endurance, and limits
of the students in activities such as aiming the baskets, shot balls, Chinese
balls, mixing the colours, sorting the colours, ball picking, relay balls, sit
up balls, wet sponge and many more exciting activities with several awards for
winners.

The spirit of competition was in full
swing and the participants representing each house were out for the win and
nothing less. This was evident during the Stage 2 shot balls activity which was
intense from the very start, even the audience were on their feet as the Flying
Horse’s participant, who was represented by a very young girl who had it tough
as she kept on missing the basket with every throw as did other participants
from the other houses. It was a tough tie that solidified Flaming Flamingo’s
(Red house) race to clinching Sunnydale’s 10th Inter-house sport cup.

Flaming Flamingo House went on a rampage
in the subsequent activities, thumping their rivals in several of the sporting
activities ranging from 100m dash, obstacle relay and maintaining a good pole
position in other games such as sorting the colours, mixing the colours, tug of
war among others.

Invited schools also had a go at it as
they went head to head with Sunnydale’s finest athletes in the relay race event.
It was nervy one, but Avi Cenna School took the day to edge out Sunnydale in a
closely contested relay race that saw Avi Cenna share the spoils of winning
with Sunnydale.

Overall, it was a riveting experience for the students, parents, and invitees who witnessed a super-charged Inter-House Sports Competition that would linger in their memories for a while; as such it was a super Sunnydale sporting master class.
