JAMB Shifts 2025 UTME Registration to February 3 Amid Law Programme Suspension and CBT Centre Scrutiny

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has postponed the commencement of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration to Monday, February 3, citing necessary adjustments to its registration process.

Initially set to begin on Friday, January 31, the delay comes amid ongoing reviews related to the suspension of certain law programmes in Nigerian universities and concerns over fraudulent Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres.

JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, explained in a statement on Friday that the shift was necessary to address pressing issues that could compromise the integrity of the registration process.

“These adjustments come in light of the recent suspension of certain law programmes at selected universities, as submitted to the Board by the Council for Legal Education,” Benjamin stated.

He further disclosed that JAMB had uncovered irregularities in some CBT centres, where deceitful means were used to gain approval, necessitating a reassessment of such facilities.

“Additionally, the Board discovered that some Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres had used deceptive facilities to gain approval, prompting the need for further scrutiny and corrections by disapproving such centres.”

While acknowledging the potential inconvenience for candidates, Benjamin assured that the postponement was in their best interest. “The Board acknowledges the disruption this may cause to candidates and other stakeholders and sincerely apologises for any inconvenience. The additional time will be used to ensure that all necessary changes are made for a smooth registration process.”

The registration delay follows the Council of Legal Education’s suspension of the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme for the 2025/2026 academic session in eight universities. As a result, JAMB announced on Wednesday, January 29, that it would no longer process admissions into the affected institutions for law-related courses. The impacted universities include Kwara State University, Malete, Ilorin, Kwara State; Bingham University, Karu, Nasarawa State; Redeemers University, Ede, Osun State; Western Delta University, Oghara, Delta State; Taraba State University, Jalingo, Taraba State; Arthur Jarvis University, Akpabuyo, Cross River State; Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State; and the Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State.

JAMB has urged prospective candidates to begin early preparations by securing their National Identification Number (NIN) and a functional phone number to generate their profile codes ahead of registration. “You can get your NIN ahead and a phone number that has not been previously used to register on our platform to generate your profile code prior to the time,” JAMB tweeted via its X handle on Wednesday.

In a related development, JAMB has announced The Lekki Headmaster by Kabir Alabi Garba as the official recommended reading text for candidates preparing for the 2025 UTME Use of English examination. With the new registration date set, JAMB reassures all stakeholders that the upcoming exercise will be smooth, transparent, and free of technical hiccups.
