The Federal Government has restated its unwavering dedication to promoting girl-child education and empowerment, launching the Madubi initiative as part of its broader efforts to enhance educational access for young girls across the country.
The initiative was officially unveiled by the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmed, during a symbolic road walk in Abuja yesterday. Madubi, which translates to “mirror” in Hausa, is a campaign under the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Employment (AGILE) programme, aimed at raising public awareness and driving action to support girls’ education.
During the event, Prof. Ahmed highlighted the crucial role of education in national development and reassured stakeholders that the government remains committed to sustaining and expanding initiatives that uplift young girls.
“We support every programme that seeks to empower the girl-child,” she stated. “At the Federal Ministry of Education, we have our own programme that we are going to launch soon to ensure that we empower the girl-child.”
She commended AGILE for creating educational and economic opportunities for young girls, emphasizing that it is a significant step toward ensuring their full participation in society.
“AGILE is wonderful in terms of giving opportunity to the girl-child by providing access and opportunity for the girl-child to flourish in our society,” Ahmed said. “We hope to see other programmes that will ensure every girl-child has the opportunity to reach her full potential.”
The minister further noted that the road walk was a symbolic reflection of hope, inspiring young girls to see themselves in the success stories of Nigerian women who have triumphed over societal barriers through education and empowerment.
The Madubi campaign is expected to further amplify the call for enhanced educational access, policy reforms, and community engagement to ensure that every Nigerian girl has the opportunity to succeed.
