The Concerned Parents and Educators Initiative (CPE) has called on the Government to ensure the safety of children in early years schools nationwide.

According to the Founder of the group, Mrs Yinka Ogunde, these are very vulnerable children. A lot of them can barely talk and they require special care from teachers and their caregivers. There is an urgent need to ensure that the right people are there for them.

No country can afford to put at risk the lives of babies and toddlers.

Mrs Ogunde pointed out that there are numerous crèche and primary schools operating without the knowledge of the government and this puts parents and children at risk.

It is important that every school serving children aged 0-5 be evaluated and closed down if found unsafe for children.

CPE also made a call to caregivers and teachers to be more conscious of their mental health.

“It is impossible to believe that anyone in a sound state of mind can beat a 19months old baby with countless strokes or a 3-year-old child for not being able to recite numbers”

This is a clarion call to concerned Nigerians and Non-Governmental organizations to rise up and ensure that such schools that put young children at risk are reported to the Government.
