Bereton Montessori School – Advancing Children Development

Bereton Montessori opened on the 10th of September, 1978 as a pioneer private nursery school in Rivers State with 120 children in eight classrooms. The school has since grown to contain the Early Years, Primary, and Secondary Schools. The Early Years School is situated at Plot 270 Liberation Stadium Road, GRA Phase IV, Rumu Omasi, Port Harcourt, with children from 3 to 5 years old present on site. The Junior School is for children aged between the ages of 7 – 11. The Senior School is for children aged between the ages of 11 – 18. Both Junior and Senior Schools are housed in a modern building situated in 8 Ernest Ikoli Street, Old GRA, Port Harcourt.

Bereton Montessori has an approach to
Pupils/Students directed by the highest Christian ideals which include love and
respect for one’s fellow man, service to the whole community, friendship,
understanding, and fair-mindedness to all. The school aims to produce the Total
Child – children that are morally, socially, spiritually, and academically
sound, using state-of-the-art facilities.

Academic
Methods

Bereton Montessori has a unique academic
method structured to be effective, dynamic, practical, intensive and
goal-oriented. The students are divided into small well-lit and air-conditioned
classes to enable individual attention and effective teaching and monitoring of
the pupils/students. A blend of the Nigerian
and British curriculum is delivered using intensive teaching methods.

The school is well staffed with
competent, experienced and professionally qualified teaching and non-teaching
staff. Members of the staff are carefully selected to complement modern
teaching methods and facilities. They are trained and constantly retrained in
order to maintain the school’s reputed standard.

The school’s academic methods prepare
the students for both national and international examinations. These include NECO, JSCE, IGCSE, and Cambridge Checkpoint.

Facilities

Modern, state-of-the-art facilities are
present at the school. A modern, spacious and airy classroom environment
conducive for learning is provided. All classrooms are well furnished with
chairs and tables suitable for different ages and sizes of children enrolled
and are kept neat and clean always. All classrooms are technology-enabled and contain
electronic teaching facilities such as interactive whiteboards, televisions,
and projectors.

Other facilities include our ICT suites,
music studio, home economics rooms, science labs, language room, art studio,
libraries, and play equipment which make teaching and learning more practical,
lively, realistic and interesting.

Parents
Involvement

The school encourages the close
involvement of parents in monitoring the progress of their children. Open days
are held once every term, where parents can discuss issues with teaching staff
on the academic performance and conduct of their children. Parents may also be
invited by the Headteacher on academic or discipline issues with their
children.

The Parent-Teacher Association presents
a platform for parents to contribute on issues affecting their children. Events
also are held each session to acquaint parents with the activities of the
school.

Awards
and Achievements

Bereton Montessori has been bequeathed
with countless awards and achievements in academic and sporting activities over
the years. Some of the competitions won include Port Harcourt Amateur Open Golf
Tournament, Garden City Spelling Bee, Garden City Mental Mathematics
Competition, National Mathematics Olympiad, among others.
