Vivian Fowler Memorial College is the
leading all-girls school in Nigeria. Established on 8th January 1991 by Chief
Dr (Mrs) Leila Fowler, MFR, the school has the aim of promoting the advancement
of women through quality and functional education. The exclusive nature of the
college (girls only) is aimed at reducing the possibility of bias in the choice
of subjects and careers. It raises expectations, develops a wider variety of
leadership opportunities and balances a disciplined work routine with an
enjoyable social life outside the classroom.

The college is a supportive community of
individuals with a passion for excellence. It offers a balanced education that
develops students’ personal qualities to enable them to cope with life in
universities both in and outside Nigeria.

Vivian Fowler Memorial College for Girls
offers its students an extensive, contemporary education that encourages
independent thinking, self-analysis, and reflection. The rich and holistic
educational experience emphasizes the importance of the inquisitive mind,
creativity, personal challenge, and community service. The instructional
methodology seamlessly incorporates STEM learning which enriches and extends
understanding.

Academic
Structure

The vision of the college is based on the integration and promotion of womanhood into the topmost heights in all aspects of human endeavour through both academic pursuits and moral discipline. As such, the college runs a six-year programme in two sections: the Junior Secondary School (JSS) and the Senior Secondary School (SSS) in accordance with the National Policy on Education simply described as the 6-3-3-4 system of education.

The curriculum offered is a blend of the British Cambridge and the Nigerian National curricula in a dynamic, inspiring, and well-equipped learning environment which includes project work, field trips, workshops, seminars, and conferences. The students, at the end of their programme, are adequately prepared for both National and International examinations, including CHECKPOINT, BECE, WAEC, IGCSE, SAT, TOEFL, and IELTS.

School
Facilities

The school is equipped with first-rate boarding facilities. The College Hostels are roomy and befittingly furnished, with emphasis on comfort and security. There are indoor games as well as Video/TV facilities in the common room for relaxation. The hostel is open to students of different faiths and no one is compelled to follow any particular form of worship. Accordingly, anyone who desires to stay away from services on account of her faith will be permitted to do so.

The college maintains well-equipped and
modern laboratories for Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Agricultural Science,
Integrated Science, and the Languages. Suitable workshops are provided for
Introductory Technology, Technical Drawing, Clothing and Textile, Food and
Nutrition and Fine Arts.

Co-Curricular
Activities

It is the firm belief of Vivian Fowler
Memorial College that the students should have the opportunity to learn, not
only in the classroom but also by making use of the beautiful environment in
which they live. The students are therefore encouraged to participate in at
least one variety of co-curricular activities aimed at good interaction as well
as preparing them for leadership roles.

Some of the clubs available in the
school are Robotics, The Girls’ Guide, Red Cross, Choir, Literary, and
Debating, JETS, Chess, Drama, Press, Knitting and Homemakers. To achieve the
objective of all-round development and to broaden the students’ horizon,
excursions and study visits are periodically organised to various places of
historical or educational significance either within the country or beyond.
