A 300-level student of the University of Ilorin, identified as Blessing Olajide, was allegedly raped and murdered in her room in the Tanke area of Ilorin, Kwara State.

Olajide, who until her death, was a student of the Agricultural Science Department, hailed from Oke-Opin in the Ekiti Local Government Area of the state.

While details of the incident were still sketchy as of the time of filing this report, The PUNCH gathered on Thursday that the deceased was murdered in her Tanke home on Tuesday.

The Director of Corporate Affairs, UNILORIN, Alhaji Kunle Akogun, said he had not been briefed about the incident when contacted by our correspondent on Thursday.

He said, “Sincerely, I am not aware of the incident. It might have happened outside the school campus, but, I’m not yet aware.”

However, the Police Public Relations Officer in the State, Ajayi Okasanmi, while confirming the incident, said, “A complaint was lodged at F’ Divisional Police Station of the discovery of the corpse of a student.

“Our men were mobilised to the scene and they evacuated the corpse and took it to the hospital for autopsy. We met her naked, bruises were noticed in her private part, her mouth was covered among others,” he further stated.

Reacting to the development, a lawmaker in the state, Ganiyu Abolarin, representing Ekiti Constituency in the state House of Assembly, decried the growing insecurity in the state, demanding the immediate investigation, apprehension, and prosecution of the culprits.
