In a significant development during the plenary session held on October 23, 2024, the Senate adopted an all-inclusive approach to address the pressing issue of out-of-school children in Nigeria.
Dr. Idiat Adebule, the senator representing Lagos West Senatorial District, expressed her delight at the Senate’s actions stemming from the motion she moved regarding the matter.
“I feel elated by the fact that the motion I moved on the matter prompted the Senator Lawal Adamu-led Committee on Education (Primary & Secondary) to hold a session, presented a report to plenary, and the debate on the report by Distinguished colleagues led to groundbreaking decision of the Senate to convene a national summit on out-of-school children,” Dr. Adebule stated.
The senator emphasized the urgency of finding a permanent resolution to the multifaceted challenge posed by the high number of out-of-school children in the country, declaring, “A permanent resolution of the hydra-headed menace of out-of-school children in our country is a matter that is close to my heart.”
This proactive stance by the Senate marks a crucial step in addressing the educational needs of millions of Nigerian children, paving the way for a brighter future.
