Ogun State Honours Mathematics Teacher, Kayode Adewale, with ₦5 Million and Bungalow for Global Recognition

In a move to celebrate excellence in education, Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has rewarded Kayode Adewale, a mathematics teacher at Imagbon/Imaka Comprehensive High School, with ₦5 million and a bungalow. This recognition follows Adewale’s selection as one of the top 50 finalists for the prestigious $1 million Global Teacher Prize.

Adewale, known for his innovative teaching methods that combine technology with local language instruction, has gained both national and international acclaim. His dedication to transforming education earned him this global spotlight, and his achievements have positioned Ogun State as a hub for educational excellence.

In a statement shared via X (formerly Twitter), Governor Abiodun commended Adewale’s remarkable contributions, describing him as a beacon of inspiration for educators worldwide. “As a state that prides itself on being the education capital of Nigeria, we are immensely proud to celebrate one of our own, Kayode Adewale, a visionary educator who has earned a place among the Top 50 teachers globally in the prestigious Global Teacher Prize,” the statement read.

The Global Teacher Prize, an initiative by the Varkey Foundation in collaboration with UNESCO, recognizes educators who have made extraordinary contributions to transforming lives and communities through education. Adewale’s inclusion in the top 50 highlights his commitment to improving learning outcomes in his community.

Beyond his international recognition, Adewale is no stranger to accolades, having won the Ogun State Best Teacher Award in 2020. An alumnus of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, he exemplifies the institution’s legacy of excellence in teacher training and education.

Governor Abiodun emphasized the significance of Adewale’s achievement and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting outstanding educators. “Today, as a government committed to fostering excellence, we are proud to honor Kayode Adewale as the Ogun State Education Ambassador. To commemorate this achievement, we will provide him with a bungalow in any part of Ogun State of his choice. Additionally, we will support him with a cash prize of ₦5,000,000 to further inspire his outstanding work in education,” he stated.

Adewale’s approach to teaching has been transformative, utilizing innovative methods to engage students and improve their understanding of mathematics. His efforts have not only elevated his community but also brought pride to Ogun State on the global stage.
