The Niger Government has assured that it is making frantic efforts to ensure the safe release of the 136 students of the Tanko Salihu Islamic School, Tegina, Rafi Local Government Area of the state abducted by bandits.

Making the disclosure at a press briefing in Minna today, the state Deputy Governor, Alh. Ahmed Ketso, said significant progress is currently being made in that direction.

“It is therefore important for our people to know that the Government is not relenting in its efforts to ensure lasting peace and security returns to the troubled parts of the state,” he stated.

Admitting the high level of compliance to the ban on commercial motorcycles in Minna, Ketso also said the Government is further compelled to consequently enforce the ban on illegal motor parks in the state.

According to him, “This ban will take effect from today Wednesday 9th June, 2021; For the avoidance of doubts, the following are the legally recognized motor parks in Minna and the public is advised to strictly patronize the under listed motor parks only”

“These include the Abdulsalam Garage, Central Garage, Kpakungu Garage, Limawa Garage, NSTA Garage, Mobil Garage, Peace Travel Park, Nice Travel Park and Kure Market Park.”

The deputy governor explained that the move became necessary in order to further close some security gaps in the transportation sector while advising commuters to desist from taking public transport outside the stipulated garages.

He further stated that henceforth, all commercial vehicles in the state must obtain commercial number plates with immediate effect as well as stickers from the Ministry of Transport.

“The use of private vehicles for commercial purposes is henceforth banned and anyone caught in the act will be prosecuted. Similarly, all private motorcycles must be properly registered and the riders must also obtain a rider’s card accordingly. Equally, all tricycles must also be properly registered and issued a rider’s card.”

He then added, “let me use this opportunity to commiserate with residents of Minna on the hardships these policies may have caused them. Sincerely, the government is aware of the difficulties the people are going through moving from one point to the other, I believe, this is a worthy sacrifice we all need to make in the interest of securing ourselves, our families and our property. ”
