LASUSBAS Welcomes Record Enrolment with 2024/2025 Orientation Programme

The Lagos State University School of Basic and Advanced Studies (LASUSBAS) hosted its 2024/2025 Academic Session Orientation Programme, celebrating the admission of over 1,000 new students—a record-breaking milestone in the School’s history.

In his opening remarks, the Director of LASUSBAS, Prof. Yunus Dauda, commended the visionary leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, for her unwavering support and innovative policies that have elevated the School’s profile. He attributed the record enrolment to significant advancements made under her administration.

“This session has the highest enrolment recorded in our recent history,” Prof. Dauda stated. He highlighted key achievements, including the payment of JUPEB students’ examination fees, the construction of a 150-space CBT centre—the first of its kind in Badagry—the renovation of the Aradagun Hostel, the promotion and training of tutors, and the timely payment of staff benefits.

The orientation programme, Prof. Dauda explained, served as a platform to showcase the School’s achievements and reaffirm its commitment to providing quality education and preparing students for the JUPEB examinations, enabling seamless admission into 200-level university programmes.

Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olatunji-Bello, emphasized the inclusive vision behind the establishment of LASUSBAS, which evolved from the LASU Foundation JUPEB Programme.

“We established LASUSBAS to increase opportunities for knowledge-seekers like you to acquire the necessary education to either gain Direct Entry admission into full-time degree programmes at our esteemed university or to build a solid foundation for other aspirations,” she said.

She reassured students of the administration’s commitment to providing state-of-the-art facilities and a conducive learning environment while urging them to avoid social vices.

Goodwill messages were delivered by notable dignitaries, including the Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences, Prof. Akanji Bankole, represented by Prof. N. S. Alaka; the Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Olusegun Onilude; and the Akran of Badagry, His Royal Majesty, De Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi I, represented by Chief Anthony Oloyede Hunjitose.

The event also featured a variety of engaging activities, including lectures on Career Guidance and Counseling, Gender-Based Violence and Sexual Harassment, Security Awareness, School Fee Payment Procedures, and Library Use. A vote of thanks delivered by student representative Fatima Qusim and a performance by the Akere Ogu Cultural Troupe added a celebratory tone to the occasion.
