Lagos Teacher Arrested for Raping, Forcing Abortions on 17-Year-Old Ward

Gbolahan Osinusi, a 42-year-old teacher and guardian, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly sexually abusing his ward since she was just 12 years old.

The abuse reportedly continued until December 2023, when the victim turned 17.

According to reports, Osinusi took the girl to a nurse, Mariam Fatolu, multiple times to obtain abortion drugs whenever she became pregnant.

The victim, who is now a teenager, was allegedly coerced into silence through threats from Osinusi, who forced her to swear an oath that she would not disclose the abuse, warning her that she would die if she did.

The Lagos Police Command spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the grim details of the case in a statement on Monday.

“On the 30/09/24 at about 1500hrs, a case of defilement/abortion was transferred from Festac Division to the Gender Unit of Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja,” he stated.

The statement went on to detail the victim’s allegations: “The complaint who reported the matter alleged that one Gbolahan Osinusi ‘m’ aged 42, a teacher at a school in Ketu-Epe, Lagos State and also the guardian to her 12-year-old had been having sexual intercourse with her since the survivor was 12 years old till December 2023 when she was 17 years.”

Hundeyin noted that Osinusi has been charged to court as of October 16, 2024, while nurse Mariam Fatolu is currently receiving medical attention at General Hospital Ketu-Epe. She is expected to face charges in court soon.

This tragic case highlights the urgent need for better protection and support for vulnerable minors, as the community grapples with the disturbing reality of abuse from those who are meant to care for and protect them.
