Engineers at the Centre for Sustainable Energy at Kwara State University (KWASU) have successfully converted a petrol-powered vehicle to run on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).
This innovative achievement marks a significant milestone in the university’s ongoing efforts to embrace greener technologies.
During an inspection of the newly converted vehicle, Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali OON, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, praised the university’s initiative.
“This is a laudable step in seeking sustainable alternatives to petrol to power vehicles,” he remarked, acknowledging the forward-thinking approach of the institution.
Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, the Vice-Chancellor of KWASU, highlighted the university’s dedication to addressing societal challenges through practical solutions.
He stated, “One of the products was the conversion of scrap petrol engine vehicles to electricity powered and now, vehicles that can run on Compressed Natural Gas CNG.”
These advancements, he affirmed, reflect the university’s commitment to fostering a sustainable environment and tackling critical societal issues.
The engineers from the Centre for Sustainable Energy, while briefing the Governing Council, emphasized the benefits of CNG. They explained that CNG not only offers lower fuel costs compared to petrol but also enhances fuel efficiency, reduces maintenance expenses, and prolongs engine life due to its cleaner properties.
