When the news broke out that the United Kingdom had opened a pathway for teachers to migrate into the country, it was met with a lot of varying reactions from education professionals in Nigeria.
Some were happy to learn of the development as they cited the economic situation in Nigeria and the poor treatment by some of their school heads.
Some stakeholders have however lamented this development as they wondered what the hope of the Nigerian education sector would be if the best teachers in the system all migrated to the UK.
One respondent however, an education professional based in the UK (name withheld), stated some of the things that teachers who want to ‘japa’ should expect.
She stated how that poor anger management, verbal or physical assault, engaging in inappropriate behavior, could earn anyone caught in them jail time in the UK.
In essence, while it’s never a bad idea for a teacher to want to migrate, they must however know what to expect before getting there.
