FG Takes Firm Stand Against Bullying in Schools, Sets Up Special Committee

In a decisive move to curb bullying in Nigerian schools, the Federal Ministry of Education (FME) has inaugurated a seven-member committee to tackle bullying incidents nationwide, reinforcing its commitment to ensuring a safe learning environment for students.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, highlighted the psychological toll of bullying on students and the urgent need for intervention. The newly formed committee will review reported cases and ensure swift action, working alongside the existing 21-member team developing a National Policy on Anti-Bullying.

To facilitate confidential reporting and encourage victims to speak up, the Ministry has introduced multiple reporting channels: Hotline: 09012660044, Email: antibullying@education.gov.ng, WhatsApp: 08052536133.

Dr. Alausa reaffirmed the Ministry’s zero-tolerance stance on bullying, calling on school administrators, teachers, parents, and students to actively support the initiative. “This aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes education as a driver of national development,” the Minister stated.

The initiative marks a significant step toward eradicating bullying in schools, ensuring that Nigerian students can learn in a safe and supportive environment.
