Federal Ministry of Education Urges Support for 2024/2025 FLL Championship Winners to Foster Robotics Education in Nigeria

The Federal Ministry of Education (FME) has called for the support of relevant bodies and stakeholders to champion the winners of the 2024/2025 First Lego League (FLL) championship competition.

Speaking in Abuja on Monday during her opening address, Dr. Mrs. Adenike Olodo, the Director of Technology and Science Education at the ministry, emphasized the importance of nurturing and developing local talent in the field of robotic education in Nigeria.

Dr. Olodo highlighted that the FLL competition’s four core elements—research, robot design, core values, and robot game—are vital in fostering the diverse skills necessary to thrive in an Artificial Intelligence-driven world.

“The competition not only advances participants’ technical expertise but also helps them build critical life skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, and resilience,” she stated.

She further expressed confidence that the winning teams from this year’s competition would go on to represent Nigeria at the international level, showcasing their advanced skills on the global stage.

Mr. Olajide Ademola Ajayi, the founder of Coderina Ed-Tech, echoed Dr. Olodo’s sentiments, praising the FLL Championship for providing more than just technical knowledge.

He emphasized that it equips young Nigerians with enduring life skills. “The FLL Championship aligns with the Federal Ministry of Education’s TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) program, and its impact is already evident as students are utilizing technology to solve real-world problems, ensuring they are prepared for the future of AI-driven industries,” Ajayi remarked.

Ajayi also shared that Coderina, a non-profit organization, partners with the FME to help equip young learners with the technological skills needed to navigate both their educational journeys and life after school.

The programme, which is held annually, brings together students from across Nigeria, cutting across various levels of education, to create a collaborative and competitive platform for innovation.
