On the 22nd of June 2023, Bridge the Gap Initiative organized a program titled “Sex Education, No Hush Zone” at Neca House, Alausa, Ikeja. The initiative was founded by Mrs Opeyemi Makanjuola, a sex advocate dedicated to supporting young individuals who have experienced sexual harassment, emotional and mental trauma, addiction, and conflicts with their parents, among other challenges.
The program commenced at 10 A.M. and welcomed notable dignitaries, including Professor Folashade Ogunsola, the first female Vice-Chancellor, who was represented at the event. Additionally, the former Director of Women Affairs from the Ministry of Women Affairs in Cross Rivers State was present.
During the program, Mrs Opeyemi Makanjuola launched her sex education course on Udemy, which is available for a fee. She also introduced her Sanitary Kit, which includes journals, pads, and other items. Her belief is that every girl child should receive education on menstrual hygiene.
The event also featured the presentation of certificates of appreciation to several nonprofit organizations that have made significant contributions to societal betterment over the past years. Among the honored NGOs were Every Child Matters Africa, Healing Brooks Counselling, Human Development Initiatives Foundation, The Hindsight Development Organization, Mirabel Center, and Concerned Parents and Educators Network, among others.
In addition to her advocacy work, Mrs Opeyemi Makanjuola operates a YouTube channel where she addresses issues related to child-parent conflicts.
Overall, the “Sex Education, No Hush Zone” program organized by Bridge the Gap Initiative, under the leadership of Mrs Opeyemi Makanjuola, successfully brought together experts, dignitaries, and NGOs dedicated to empowering and supporting young individuals facing various challenges. The event served as a platform for knowledge sharing, launching valuable resources, and recognizing the remarkable efforts of nonprofit organizations working towards a better society
