Education Minister Pledges Infrastructure Overhaul at King’s College After Surprise Visit

In a move aimed at addressing long-standing infrastructure challenges, the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, paid an unannounced visit to King’s College Main Campus at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos, on Thursday, February 13.

During his inspection of the school’s labs, classrooms, dormitories, and dining hall, the minister expressed concern over the dilapidated state of facilities and vowed to take immediate action to improve the learning environment.

In a video shared on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Alausa was seen addressing students, emphasizing the need for urgent reforms.

“Good morning to you all, I’m so happy to be here with you, the future leaders of our country,” he told the students. “I came in at about 7:30 am, it was an unannounced visit, and I wanted to see things the way they are. I’ve been around, I went to your classes, I went to your chemistry lab, your physics lab, your biology lab, and your technical drawing lab. I went to your ICT centre, your dining room, and your dormitory. I must say, the things that I’ve seen here are not what we want for our children.”

The minister acknowledged the urgent need for renovation, describing the state of the facilities as unacceptable.

“The facilities are quite dilapidated, but I’m making a promise to you now as your Minister of Education, that when I get back to Abuja, I’ll quickly look into this,”
