Builder Sola Dare, the former Director of Physical Planning at the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), delivered his valedictory lecture as he stepped down after 35 years of dedicated service.
The event was held on November 5, 2024, at the TI Francis Auditorium, where Dare recounted his experiences and contributions to the university’s physical and infrastructural development in a lecture aptly titled “The Trajectory of FUTA’s Physical and Infrastructural Development: My Story.”
Reflecting on his career, Dare described his journey as both challenging and rewarding, highlighting the completion of over thirty monumental projects under his supervision. “Through the prudent application of funds and focused goal-oriented leadership of the University Management at various times coupled with the highly responsive mindset, best practice benchmark, and professional hard work, dedication, resilience, and disposition to duty, I took full advantage of the rare and unique opportunity given me to add value to the emerging beautiful landscape of FUTA,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of adhering to procurement regulations.
Dare proudly noted the culture of transparency he cultivated, asserting, “Under my watch, and with all due sense of responsibility, I stand before you with a profound sense of pride to put it to you that FUTA occupies an enviable position second to none amongst procuring entities in the Higher Education sector in providing a level playing ground for all stakeholders in our procurement processes.” He encouraged future builders to prioritize excellence, integrity, and innovation.
The Vice Chancellor of FUTA, Professor Adenike Oladiji, represented by Deputy Vice Chancellor Development, Professor Sunday Oluyamo, praised Dare’s impactful leadership, stating, “Builder Dare has left an indelible mark on our institution. It is only fitting that we reflect on the legacies and achievements of an indefatigable personality.” His strategic vision and commitment to excellence were highlighted as pivotal in shaping FUTA into a renowned educational institution.
Engr. Folorunsho Boyinbode, Director of Physical Planning, lauded Dare’s contributions to transforming FUTA’s campus and mentoring future leaders. “Builder Dare is a professional in administration, his administrative acumen has attracted commendations within and outside the university,” he remarked.
The lecture was attended by dignitaries, including royal fathers, clergy, family, friends, and university staff, all gathered to honor Dare’s legacy. A Fellow of the Nigeria Institution of Building, Dare began his journey at FUTA on January 10, 1989, as a Clerk of Works/Building Engineer and rose to become the 4th substantive Director of Physical Planning in 2011, a role he held until 2021. His departure leaves behind a trail of achievements that will inspire generations to come.
