Back2School Drive: Federal Ministry of Education to Enroll Almajiri, Out-of-School Children in Classrooms

In a concerted effort to combat the challenge of out-of-school children, the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, in collaboration with the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education (NCAOOSCE), is set to formally hand over children gathered in and around the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for enrollment in schools.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by Boriowo Folasade
Director, Press & Public Relations Federal Ministry of Education, on Friday November 15, 2024.

This significant event marks the culmination of the “Back2School” enrollment drive launched earlier this year, aimed at enhancing educational inclusivity across Nigeria.

Handover Ceremony Details: The handover ceremony will take place today, Friday, 15th November, extending to Saturday, 16th November 2024, across several locations in the FCT.

Through the generous support of the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, and the Minister of FCT, Mr. Nyesom Wike, these children will be absorbed into local schools, with all associated costs covered by the government to ensure no financial burden on their families.

Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa expressed heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Muhammad Sani Idris, Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education, and the Honourable Minister of FCT, Mr. Nyesom Wike, for their unwavering dedication and support in making this initiative a reality.

According to Dr. Alausa, “Their commitment to the successful implementation of the ‘Back2School’ drive not only underscores the government’s dedication to reducing the number of out-of-school children but also propels our goal of achieving inclusive and equitable education for all.”
