Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has rewarded the three best graduating students of the Ogun State Polytechnic of Health and Allied Sciences, Ilese-Ijebu, with N2.5 million each in recognition of their outstanding academic achievements.
The announcement was made at the institution’s 3rd combined convocation ceremony on Thursday, where the governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering academic excellence.
The beneficiaries of the N7.5 million reward are Famuyewa Aminat from the Dental Technology department, who emerged as the best student for the 2021/2022 academic year with a CGPA of 3.75; Rasak Temilola from Health Information Management, the overall best for the 2022/2023 session with a CGPA of 3.68; and Kanyinsola Salami from Environmental Health Technology, who not only topped the 2023/2024 academic session with a CGPA of 3.94 but was also named the overall best-graduating student of the convocation.
Governor Abiodun, represented by his Special Adviser on Secondary Education, Mrs. Ronke Soyombo, emphasized that the gesture was part of his administration’s ongoing drive to create a conducive learning environment that nurtures intellectual growth. “The state government’s commitment to continue to invest further in the education sector while ensuring that students and institutions have the necessary resources to excel remains sacrosanct,” he stated. “Education is the bedrock of any society, and we will continue to ensure that our students have access to quality education. The rewarding of these outstanding students today is a reflection of our commitment to nurturing the leaders of tomorrow.”
Addressing the graduates, the governor urged them to apply their expertise in revolutionizing Nigeria’s health sector by providing high-quality services that will positively impact the nation’s well-being.
The Rector of the institution, Dr. Rasaki Akinbo, used the occasion to highlight the school’s rapid development since its upgrade to a polytechnic in 2023.
As Nigeria’s first Polytechnic of Health, Akinbo noted that the institution is poised to be a leading force in health and allied sciences education. He expressed gratitude to Governor Abiodun for his unwavering support, stating that the institution has witnessed significant growth, including the accreditation of 11 new programs and the re-accreditation of five existing courses.
“Our institution has undergone transformative development, from the completion of key projects such as the Medical Laboratory Technician and Health Information Management buildings to the renovation of hostels and the ongoing upgrade of our ICT center,” he added.
The Chairman of the Governing Council, Kunle Kakejaiye, also commended the state government’s contributions but called for additional support in the institution’s infrastructural development. He specifically appealed for the tarring of internal roads and increased funding to further enhance the institution’s facilities.
With this reward initiative, the Ogun State government continues to reinforce its commitment to academic excellence and the development of the education sector, ensuring that students receive the motivation and resources necessary to thrive in their respective fields.
