Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has announced the strict enforcement of its new dress code and ethics policy, introducing penalties for students violating the rules both on and off campus. The move reinforces the institution’s zero-tolerance stance on indiscipline.
The violations are categorized into two groups: unethical behaviors and dress code offences. According to the university, these measures aim to uphold high standards of discipline and decorum among students.
Category A violations include a range of unethical behaviours such as:
Consumption or possession of alcohol and illicit drugs.
Membership in unregistered associations.
Sexual assault, cybercrimes, homosexuality, and bullying.
Physical and verbal assault, theft, and extortion.
Male-female cohabitation, bringing babies to hostels or lecture rooms, and unauthorized vehicle usage on campus.
Walking on the lawn, among other acts deemed inappropriate.
Offences Under Category B: Dress Code Violations
Dress code offences include:
Failure to wear identification cards on campus.
Wearing skimpy or revealing clothes and any form of indecent or flamboyant attire.
Male students sporting piercings, braided hair, or long nails.
Female students wearing coloured braids or hair extensions that extend beyond the neck region.
Unkempt or dishevelled appearances.
Sanctions for Offenders
The university has outlined sanctions for violators, ranging from the seizure of identification cards and fines to suspension or outright expulsion, depending on the severity of the offence.
In a statement, the university emphasized its commitment to maintaining a disciplined and respectful academic environment. “This policy underscores our dedication to fostering a community where discipline and ethics are upheld,” a university spokesperson noted.
Students are urged to comply with the new regulations as the institution begins immediate enforcement of the policy. The university also assured that it will remain vigilant in monitoring and addressing issues that undermine its standards.
