University of Abuja Clinches Audience Award at 2024 Wageningen Food Innovation Challenge in the Netherlands

The University of Abuja has secured the prestigious Audience Award at the grand finale of the 2024 Wageningen Food Innovation System Challenge (FSIC), held in the Netherlands.

This global competition is designed to foster partnerships with Wageningen University and various international universities and organizations, with the goal of promoting youth engagement and entrepreneurship in Food System Transitions.

The University of Abuja proudly enrolled in this esteemed challenge, with two of its teams making it to the top 18 finalists. These finalists were selected from nine universities representing diverse regions across the globe. The teams from the University of Abuja included notable members such as Dr. Ogunlade-Anibasa Grace Oyiza, the lead supervisor of the Sesame Nutrigenious project and mentor of the team Sugar Shakers; Prof. Akeem Abolade Oyerinde, the University Coordinator of FSIC-WUR; and Prof. Taibat Adebukola Atoyebi, another mentor of the Sugar Shakers team. Other distinguished members included Malam Alkassim Umar, Deputy Registrar of the Academic Office, and team members Ogunlade Oluwakemisola Olayinka and Ameh Peter ThankGod.

In preparation for the international stage, these innovative teams had previously showcased their pioneering projects to the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Aisha Sani Maikudi, before departing for the grand finale over the weekend.

This victory not only celebrates the innovative spirit of the University of Abuja but also marks a significant milestone in fostering global collaboration in food system innovations.
