UNIJOS closes hostels over insecurity

The University of Jos (UNIJOS) has ordered students to vacate their hostels immediately.

A statement signed by Chief Monday Danjem, the Registrar/Secretary to Senate on the official Facebook page of Abdullahi Abdullahi the Deputy Registrar, Information and Publications of the institution, explained the Senate unanimously ratified the decision.

It further stated all hostels should remain closed to undergraduates and post-graduate students pending receipt of a favourable security report from Plateau Commissioner of Police.

The statement said the advice followed a meeting with the student union members, the Commissioner of Police, and other security agencies.

The students were told to give security agencies two weeks to review the situation.

It also stated the Senate resolved the second semester lectures for undergraduate students to be suspended until the 7th of June 2021 pending a review of the security situation.

But postgraduate students are to continue with their academic activities.
