UNICAL lecturers allow students to write exams from homes, hotels, rest areas

Several lecturers at the University of Calabar (UNICAL) have resorted to giving students scripts to do examinations at their homes, hotels, and rest places, according to UNICAL.

At a memorandum dated Tuesday, August 10, 2021, and signed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, the institution denounced what it called “obnoxious and repulsive” actions of sorts, extortions, and sexual harassment in the university, Professor Michael Peter Okom.

The memorandum stated, “It has come to Management’s attention that some teaching staff have reintroduced the obnoxious and abhorrent actions of sorting, extortion, and sex for grades/sexual harassment.”

“A number of departments and instructors have been singled out, and investigations have begun.” Management is also aware that academics have resorted to handing pupils scripts to write exams at their homes, hotels, and rest areas.

“Anyone participating in these heinous acts is thus admonished to cease and desist.” They will, in fact, be invited to meet with the Disciplinary Committee soon.”
