UNIBEN Governing Council Praises Oba Ewuare II’s Legacy in Peacekeeping

The Governing Council of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) has expressed its admiration for the Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, Oba of Benin, highlighting his significant contributions to peacekeeping and national unity in Nigeria.

This commendation came during a courtesy visit to the Oba Palace in Benin City, Edo State capital, where the council sought to strengthen ties with the esteemed royal institution.

Professor Shaibu Umar, Chairman and Pro-Chancellor of the University Governing Council, led the delegation in acknowledging the Oba’s impactful leadership.

“The strides and developmental efforts put by the Palace to ensure peaceful coexistence are not noticed only in Benin City, but in the entire Nigeria,” he stated, emphasizing the broader implications of the Oba’s influence.

During the visit, Professor Umar addressed various university matters that have led to a transformation of anticipation into excellence, and he sought the Royal Palace’s blessings and support to enhance the council’s ability to fulfill its responsibilities effectively.

He further remarked, “Anyone who can govern the affairs of Benin Kingdom is capable of governing Nigeria,” underscoring the Oba’s governance prowess.

The council leader continued, “What your Royal Majesty is doing to have peace, stability, and proper leadership to the good people of Benin is not only seen by the Benin people in Edo State, but it is seen all over the country. We request your Royal Majesty to continue,” he pleaded, highlighting the need for sustained efforts in peacebuilding.

In response, the Omo N’ Oba acknowledged the challenges faced by the UNIBEN Governing Council, recognizing his role as Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN). The first-class traditional ruler expressed his commitment to supporting the Federal Government-owned institution, reinforcing the importance of collaboration in fostering educational excellence.

The UNIBEN delegation included Vice Chancellor Professor Lilian Salami and other principal officers, marking a significant moment of unity between the university and the Benin Royal Palace as they collectively aim to promote peace and development in Nigeria.
