UniAbuja Veterinary Students Clinch Prestigious IVSA CEVA Grant

Students from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Abuja (UofA) have been awarded the highly competitive International Veterinary Students Association (IVSA) CEVA grant.

This accolade not only highlights the students’ hard work but also positions UofA among the top global institutions in veterinary education.

Mohammad Halima Idris, President of the IVSA University of Abuja chapter, proudly announced the successful navigation of the rigorous CEVA grant application and project proposal process.

This recognition underscores the university’s commitment to excellence in veterinary medicine and the impactful initiatives that lie ahead.

The CEVA grant will fund a multitude of initiatives aimed at enhancing veterinary awareness and services within the community. Halima detailed plans for educational campaigns in schools to emphasize the vital role of veterinarians in the health sector.

The grant will also facilitate free deworming, first aid, consultation, and ectoparasite control services, ensuring that essential veterinary care reaches those in need.

In addition, the funding will support awareness programs focused on responsible pet and livestock ownership, as well as visits to abattoirs to promote humane practices in the transportation, treatment, and slaughter of livestock.

“This remarkable achievement reflects the hard work, dedication, and innovative spirit of our members,” Halima remarked, encapsulating the pride and determination of her fellow students.

Halima expressed gratitude for the ongoing support from the university’s management, acknowledging that the guidance and resources provided have been instrumental in the chapter’s growth and success.

Of the 33 applications submitted globally to the IVSA headquarters in Belgium, only nine countries were awarded the grant, including Nigeria, Egypt, and Malawi. The success of UofA, alongside two other Nigerian veterinary schools, highlights the country’s emerging prominence in veterinary education on the international stage.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the students and staff of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Abuja for this outstanding accomplishment, which promises to enrich the community and advance the field of veterinary medicine in Nigeria.
