The possibility of rescheduling 2021 UTME is still high – JAMB

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has disclosed that the date for the 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) could very likely be rescheduled.

The JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, explained the exam, which is currently set to hold between June 5 and 19, could still be shifted forward due to the inability of interested candidates to register in time for the exams.

Speaking on Friday at a virtual meeting with 2021 UTME committee members, Oloyede disclosed that 1.1 million candidates have so far registered for the 2021 UTME, adding that the board anticipated approximately 1.9 million registrations at the end of the exercise.

“The possibility of shifting the exam forward is still high, but that will be determined after our meeting with stakeholders. This is because about 600,000 candidates who have indicated interest in the exam are yet to register. There is a need to give everyone the opportunity.”

The JAMB registrar apologised for the cumbersome registration process for the 2021 UTME regarding the need for the National Identification Number (NIN) to register for the exam.

“We apologise for putting you through some hardship in the registration. The government directed that anyone participating in JAMB must have their NIN. This is beyond our control. Those who are yet to register should do so.

“We are meeting with stakeholders today to discuss the issues and on whether we will shift the exam date forward or not. We will brief the media on the outcome of the meeting tomorrow,” he said.
