“The Greatest Gift” – Estbank Academy Holds Christmas Carol

The highly anticipated and widely
advertised Christmas Carol ceremony for Estbank Academy which happened on the
18th of December, 2019 was a huge success. A colourful event to celebrate the
Yuletide season was made even better by the outstanding talent on display from
the students of the Academy ranging from eloquent recitations from the Bible to
melodious renditions of popular hymns and songs, and even a unique drama
presentation.

The event tagged “The Greatest Gift”
kicked off with the Welcome Address by the Vice Principal of the Academy, Mr
Okanlawon. This was then followed by the recital of the first hymn of the day
titled “O Come Ye Faithful” and the first Bible Reading by the Head Girl,
Abiodun Tosin. Afterwards came the first performance by the choir led by Fayo
Akinlofa. It was a wonderful rendition of some Christmas songs by the children,
and this sentiment was shared by the parents who showed their appreciation with
an extended round of applause for the performance.

Next up was the drama titled “The
Greatest Gift”. The story was about a baby born at the time of hardship in a
village to a girl named Carol. The birth of this baby coincided with a sudden
upturn of events in the village, causing wild celebrations all over the village
and the adoration of the child. The cast was made up of mostly JSS 1 students
interspersed with some JSS 2 students. This made the drama even more impressive
in addition to the acting prowess of the students.

Pastor Akinlofa, the chairman of the
occasion, then gave a rousing speech. In it, he encouraged all to cultivate the
quality of love, displaying it to everyone around even beyond the holidays,
most especially towards “the saviour Jesus Christ”. He exhorted all to show
this love in their everyday lives, and not just by word of mouth only. The Head
Boy of the Academy, Peace Timothy, and the Time Keeper, Alakiu Ibukunoluwa,
also read portions of the Bible for all to follow, and there were hymns sung in
between.

A highlight of this event was the musical instrumental display, including the violin, trumpet, saxophone, electronic keyboard and drum set. It was really entertaining and impressive. The choreographed dancing by some of the students was also very catchy with a story told using the expressive manner of dancing on display.

The event rounded up with a speech by
the CEO and Principal of Estbank Academy. In it, she encouraged the parents to
keep on motivating their children and to use technology to train them. She
spoke of some of the challenges faced by the school, and how the management
worked to resolve them. She then wished everyone a merry Christmas after
closing with prayer.
