Revamping the Educational System Ayopeju Falekulo, CEO of Addlo Montessori School, Speaks

The Education system needs a lot of revamping. We need to work and make sure that children have the right foundation.

It is a well-known fact that the first 6 years are very important in a child’s life. If we don’t lay a good foundation for our children, we are leaving so much on the table.

The right foundation is to make sure that our children have solid education and experiences that are hands-on and sensorial, being that they use their senses in acquiring experiences in their environment so that they can transport that into connections that they need to make in other for them to grow and belong in the society.

We cannot expect our children at a very young age to learn without experiences. The old format of putting children in school and a teacher standing in front of them is not appropriate. We need to revamp the educational system because most schools are running with the system in the country, and it is not right.

For example, children in primary school work together as teams. They are social beings, and it is our responsibility to help them learn how to build great relationships and be self-aware.

To build a relationship, you must be self-aware and must be able to control your emotions. These are the things we have to pay attention to.

We tend to pay attention to academics, bookwork, memorizing, but that is not what educating a child is all about. We need to make sure that when a child gets out of secondary school or university and has gone into the wider society, we have laid the right foundations for them to function perfectly. It starts with the right foundation.
