Peter Obi Donates N60 Million to UNINIGER, Nursing School

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has donated 50 million naira to the University of the Niger (UNINIGER) located in Umunya.

This donation reflects his unwavering commitment to enhancing critical sectors that are pivotal for development, health education, and poverty alleviation.

Obi has also allocated an extra N10 million to the School of Nursing at Iyienu Mission Hospital in Ogidi, further underscoring his dedication to improving healthcare training in the region.

During a speech at the take-off campus in Iyi-Enu, Obi emphasized that financial support for health and education should not be viewed as mere expenditure but as a vital investment in areas that are essential for sustainable development.

“Our health and education sectors have continued to suffer from severe neglect and lack of government attention, leading to many dire consequences,” Obi stated.

He pointed out the specific challenges plaguing the health sector, noting that it is grappling not only with funding gaps and infrastructural inadequacies but also with a critical shortage of healthcare professionals nationwide.

“We are currently facing a shortage of doctors and nurses, far below WHO’s recommendations. The solution to this critical shortage lies in investing more aggressively in the training of healthcare professionals nationwide,” he asserted.
