Oyo State Bans School Hour Meetings to Strengthen Education Standards

The Oyo State government has issued a firm directive banning any form of meetings by head teachers or teachers during school hours, whether within or outside the public school premises.

This policy aims to ensure strict adherence to the unified school timetable, thereby prioritizing students’ learning time.

Dr. Nureni Adeniran, Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), announced this directive while monitoring school resumption activities in Ibadan.

He emphasized the importance of this policy, stating, “This is a warning to head teachers and teachers to desist from holding meetings during school hours. Henceforth, any primary school head teacher who indulges in such act will be severely dealt with.”

Dr. Adeniran also appealed to unions and associations within the basic education sub-sector to comply with this policy as the new academic session begins. He instructed education secretaries to ensure that the information is communicated to head teachers in their respective local government universal basic education authorities.

In addition to this policy announcement, Adeniran reiterated the board’s commitment to leveraging technology to advance the education system.

He spoke at a three-day capacity-building workshop focused on the use of the BESDA Attendance Monitoring Information System (BAMIS).

During the event, he encouraged participants to develop their skills in the use of the BAMID APP, acknowledging the Universal Basic Education Commission for its innovation in integrating the BAMIS App into official schedules.

Adeniran highlighted the board’s investment in this programme, underscoring its significance to the delivery of basic education, which is a core mandate of the board. The workshop was attended by management officials, social mobilisation officers, and basic school head teachers, all of whom are pivotal to implementing these educational advancements.
