Oxbridge College commemorates Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Day

Oxbridge Tutorial College celebrated its cultural day on the 29th of September 2023 in the school premises located at Ikeja GRA, Lagos to mark the 63rd Independence of Nigeria.

The cultural day celebration was themed, ‘United We Stand, and was attended by the Managing Director, Dr. C. O. Ogunsanya, the Head of School, Staff and Students of the School who were wonderfully dressed to represent the various tribes in Nigeria like Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba, Edo, Niger-Delta and also Intercontinental like India and Kenya.

On the morning of the event, the school hall was adorned with vibrant decorations reflecting the reason for the celebration. The celebrations kicked off with the National Anthem and Pledge which was led by a student and was followed by the welcome speech given by the Managing Director, Dr. C. O. Ogunsanya.

In her speech, she spoke on the theme of the event, ‘United We Stand’. She spoke saying that the theme is aimed at providing opportunities and a platform for practicing different skills, talents and ideas. By tapping different talents from various tribes, the event played a great role in enhancing national integration which is highly emphasized at Oxbridge Tutorial College. The event was about commemorating our culture and other cultures beyond our communities and country, she said.

The highlight of the event was a cultural display by the different houses; Soyinka (Red) House which represented the Yoruba tribe, Azikiwe (Blue) House which represented the Hausa tribe, Awolowo (Yellow) House which represented the Edo tribe and the Balewa (Green) House which represented the Igbo tribe as they showcased how the traditional wedding of those tribes are done.

A Masterchef competition was done where the judges had the taste of all the food prepared by each house/tribe with Dr. Ogunsanya being the chief judge.

A cultural parade between geo-political zones and inter-continental was also done. The different tribes in Nigeria based on the geo-political zones and the intercontinental (India) showcased their tribes through dance and songs.

The MD, Dr. Ogunsanya, encouraged the students and members of the Oxbridge faculty to shape the future of Nigeria’s cultural landscape through the talents, contributions, ideas and knowledge they acquire at Oxbridge Tutorial College.

The 63rd Independence Anniversary celebrations at Oxbridge Tutorial College will be remembered as a vibrant and memorable event that showcased the talent, passion, and love for Nigeria among its students.
