NYSC: No N70,000 Minimum Wage for Corps Members

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has officially addressed recent rumours circulating on social media regarding the alleged upgrade of corps members’ bank accounts to facilitate a new minimum wage of N70,000.

In a statement released by Eddy Megwa, the Director of Information and Public Relations, the NYSC firmly refuted these claims, labeling them as misleading and unfounded.

The NYSC clarified that there has been no directive from the relevant government authorities to implement a N70,000 minimum wage for corps members or to modify their banking arrangements.

“This is absolute falsehood which is far from the truth,” the statement emphasized, urging corps members, their families, and the general public to disregard the misinformation.

The organization reiterated that it has not received any official communication from the government sector responsible for wage matters, making it impossible for the NYSC to provide guidance or updates on such a policy.

“Corps members already know the approved channels and modes of communication within the Scheme and should therefore ignore the directive accordingly,” it added.

In a strong warning against the spread of misinformation, the NYSC admonished corps members to be vigilant and not allow “mischief makers” to exploit the situation for their gain.

The statement further cautioned bloggers and social media influencers against disseminating unauthorized information related to the management of the NYSC, emphasizing the need for responsible reporting.
