“Not heavenly rewards; Teachers’ Day deserves declaration of one-day holiday” — Grace Bakare

Grace Bakare, a dedicated primary school teacher at MarvelVine Montessori School, has been shaping young minds for an impressive 24 years.

With her experience spanning across all subjects, she emphasizes the importance of recognizing the hard work and commitment of teachers, not just on a spiritual level, but through tangible acts of gratitude from pupils and parents alike.

“Teachers should not wait to be rewarded in heaven,” said Bakare in an interview with News Reporters.

“Pupils and their parents can reach out in various ways to show appreciation for the special job teachers do, which is no easy task.”

She believes that schools should also take the initiative to organize special events or ceremonies on Teachers’ Day to honor educators.

On this special day, Mrs. Grace highlights that giving gifts is a powerful way to express gratitude, which can significantly boost teachers’ motivation. Her own experiences at MarvelVine Montessori have shown her the positive impact of appreciation; she has been celebrated multiple times, receiving gifts and accolades for her dedication. Last year, she was honoured with a long service award and a cash gift of one hundred thousand naira.

“It is an honour as a teacher to be remembered on Teachers’ Day,” she reflected, acknowledging the importance of this recognition in her career.

Bakare also advocates for Teachers’ Day to be declared a work-free day, emphasizing that showing appreciation for teachers is not just a kind gesture but a vital acknowledgment of their selfless service.
