Nigeria’s Future Unveiled: National Research Fair Set to Showcase Groundbreaking Innovation at Eagle Square

As Nigeria steps closer to becoming a knowledge-driven economy, all eyes turn to Eagle Square, Abuja, for the TETFund National Research Fair and Exhibition 2024, taking place from November 18-21.

This highly anticipated event, hailed by Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa as a “landmark initiative,” aims to harness the nation’s intellectual and natural resources to drive sustainable growth.

With extensive preparations complete, the fair promises to be a pivotal moment for Nigeria’s research community, showcasing solutions to pressing national challenges.

A Call to Action for National Growth

Describing the fair as a “call to action,” Dr. Alausa emphasized the critical role of Nigeria’s academic and research institutions in creating innovative solutions. “This event marks a step toward transforming Nigeria into a knowledge-driven economy,” he stated, underscoring how the fair aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. Dr. Alausa expressed optimism that the event would ignite collaboration across sectors, helping to propel Nigeria forward by addressing pressing issues with impactful research.

₦5 Billion Boost for Transformative Research

One of the standout features of this year’s fair is President Tinubu’s recent approval of a ₦5 billion investment for TETFund’s National Research Fund. This significant allocation will support research in key sectors like healthcare, agriculture, and energy—vital areas for sustainable national growth. The fair thus acts as a springboard for researchers to create solutions with a meaningful impact, drawing attention from academia, government bodies, and private sector representatives.

A Moment of Synergy for Sustainable Innovation

In an exciting push toward sustainable innovation, Engr. Umar Bindir, chairman of the fair’s local organizing committee, emphasized the importance of synergy. “This is a turning point,” he stated, adding that this collaborative effort brings together ministries, research institutes, and private industry. “Soon, we’ll see Nigerian-made products replacing imports, ensuring economic growth through sustained local production.” With consultations underway with NASENI, SMEDAN, financial institutions, and intellectual property bodies, the fair represents a united front in Nigeria’s journey towards industrial self-reliance.

Media Urged to Amplify National Participation

Dr. Alausa has called on the media to ensure robust coverage of the event, encouraging nationwide participation in what he describes as Nigeria’s journey toward a knowledge-powered economy. He expressed hope that this fair would set a precedent for future collaboration and spark an interest in STEM fields among Nigeria’s youth.

With such a dynamic line-up of participants and sponsors, the TETFund National Research Fair and Exhibition 2024 stands poised to be a transformative event, inspiring progress that will resonate far beyond Eagle Square.
