Nigerian Breweries Celebrates Teaching Excellence, Donates Digital Language Lab to Keke Senior High School

The Nigerian Breweries/Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund has generously donated a state-of-the-art digital language laboratory to Keke Senior High School in Agege, Lagos.

This initiative honours Adeola Adefemi, the esteemed winner of the 2023 Maltina Teacher of the Year competition.

The donation ceremony, held on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at the school premises, was attended by notable figures including Sade Morgan, Corporate Affairs Director at Nigerian Breweries Plc. Speaking at the event, Ms. Morgan emphasized the importance of the new infrastructure, stating, “This will enhance the quality of teaching and improve learning outcomes in the school.”

She highlighted that such contributions reflect the corporate philosophy and corporate social responsibility (CSR) goals of the Education Trust Fund, aimed at addressing the educational infrastructure deficit.

Ms. Morgan also commended Keke Senior High School’s remarkable academic achievements, saying, “I would like to acknowledge the academic excellence of this great citadel of learning, Keke Senior High School, which emerged the ‘Best Senior Secondary School’ in the 2020 Lagos State Governor’s Quiz Competition and the winner of the 2024 Lagos Reads Inter-Schools Quiz Competition.”

Lagos State’s Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Alli-Balogun, praised Nigerian Breweries Plc for its commitment to educational advancement.

He noted that the language laboratory will provide both students and teachers with essential digital resources. Mr. Alli-Balogun recognized the contributions of the 2023 Maltina Teacher of the Year, saying, “Her passion and commitment to the teaching profession remain a reference point.”

Principal of Keke Senior High School, Patience Aina, expressed her gratitude towards the Nigerian Breweries Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund for its generous support.

“We are grateful for what the Nigerian Breweries-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund has done in providing additional infrastructure that would boost the government’s effort in delivering quality education to students. With this language laboratory, our students would get the opportunity to study in a well-equipped learning environment,” she remarked.

Mrs. Aina further acknowledged the achievements of the Maltina Teacher of the Year competition, asserting that the recognition of teachers would undoubtedly inspire greater passion within the profession. She praised Adeola Adefemi for her exemplary performance, urging her to “continue to light the torch of excellence,” which would inspire confidence among her peers.

In her remarks, Adefemi expressed her heartfelt thanks to the Nigerian Breweries-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund for their ongoing support of education and the teaching profession. She affirmed that the newly provided facilities would lead to improved learning outcomes for the school’s students.

For her extraordinary achievements, Ms. Adefemi was awarded a cash prize of N6.5 million and a fully funded capacity development training trip to Tampere, Finland. Looking ahead, the grand finale of the 2024 Maltina Teacher of the Year competition, marking its 10th edition, is set to take place on October 11, 2024, promising to be an even more exciting and rewarding event with increased prizes.

Since its inception in 2015, the Maltina Teacher of the Year initiative has aimed to identify, honor, and reward outstanding educators across Nigeria. The program enjoys endorsement from the Federal Ministry of Education and various educational stakeholders, including the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).

Established in 1994 with a startup capital of 100 million Naira, the Nigerian Breweries-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund has made significant strides in enhancing educational quality through structured interventions. Its impact spans across all six geographical zones in Nigeria, with contributions that include the construction and furnishing of over 400 classrooms, sanitary facilities, and libraries in 74 communities, along with scholarships for deserving tertiary students.
