In a significant step towards enhancing the educational environment at Lagos State College of Health Technology (LASCOHET), newly appointed Provost Professor Olasupo Akewushola held an inaugural meeting with academic staff and students, urging a renewed commitment to professionalism and diligence in their educational roles.

Professor Akewushola emphasized the vital responsibility the college holds in molding future healthcare professionals, asserting that the quality of education provided directly impacts the healthcare sector.

He expressed his dedication to both staff and student welfare, signaling the beginning of transformative changes within the institution.

Among his commitments, the Provost announced plans to renovate all lecture rooms, aiming to create a more conducive learning atmosphere equipped with essential amenities. He also proposed the implementation of a digital portal that would facilitate timely access to student results, ensuring they are available within two weeks of examinations.

In a show of collaborative spirit, the provost addressed the student union executive members, highlighting the essential roles both students and lecturers play in elevating the college’s reputation.

He urged staff to treat students with respect and called on students to uphold good conduct, reinforcing a culture of mutual respect within the college community.

Professor Akewushola made it clear that there would be zero tolerance for misconduct, warning that disciplinary measures would be enforced against any staff or students involved in extortion, harassment, examination malpractice, or other forms of inappropriate behavior.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for the Student Union President, Kolade Salami, and other executives to voice their concerns directly to the Provost.

Salami acknowledged the Provost’s willingness to listen and requested improvements in classroom conditions, transportation services, and medical facilities for students, as well as assistance in completing the Student Union building.

Academic staff also took the opportunity to discuss their challenges, with many expressing confidence that addressing these issues would significantly enhance their capacity to deliver quality education.

As LASCOHET embarks on this new chapter under Professor Akewushola’s leadership, the focus on professionalism and student welfare promises to foster a thriving academic environment conducive to learning and growth.
