NELFUND greenlights loans for over 3,200 University of Ibadan Students

In a promising development for students at the University of Ibadan, the management has announced that the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has approved loan applications for 3,283 students.

This approval comes as a crucial lifeline for many who face financial constraints as they pursue their education.

An internal memo released on Wednesday, signed by the institution’s Registrar, G. O. Salisu, confirmed the approval while noting that the actual funds had yet to be disbursed to the university.

The memo communicated vital instructions to ensure that affected students do not face academic setbacks.

“Further to our circular number REG/13/I.26 of 13 September 2024, I write to inform the University of Ibadan community that the Nigerian Education Loan Fund has provided a list of 3,283 students whose loan applications have been approved,” the memo stated.

Despite the absence of funds at this stage, the university’s administration is taking proactive measures to support the students.

The memo continued, “Although the funds have not yet been received by the university, the list of the affected students has been sent to the departments. All Heads of Departments have been instructed to allow these students to sit for the 2023/2024 first-semester examinations.”

The communication concluded with a call for adherence to this directive, highlighting the institution’s commitment to ensuring that students can complete their examinations without hindrance.

“This is for information and strict compliance by staff and students,” the memo read.
