NANS Asks FG to Ban Diesel Importation to Boost Local Production, Conserve Foreign Exchange

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on the federal government to impose a ban on the importation of diesel.

This appeal was made by NANS Senate President Afeez Akinteye during a recent tour of the Dangote Refinery in Lagos State.

Akinteye emphasized that such a ban would not only support domestic production but also conserve valuable foreign exchange, ultimately fostering economic development.

The students were warmly received by Engr. Devakumar Edwin, Vice President of Dangote Refinery, who provided insights into the refinery’s impressive capabilities.

“Our visit allowed us to witness the immense scale and advanced technology of this world-class facility,” Akinteye stated.

He highlighted that the Dangote Refinery, one of the largest globally, is equipped with cutting-edge laboratory technology that exceeds that of many other refineries around the world.

NANS is calling on the government to direct petroleum marketers to prioritize the purchase of refined products from the Dangote Refinery, ensuring that Nigeria meets its refined product needs locally.

“The Dangote Refinery represents a monumental achievement in Nigeria’s industrial sector, and its full potential must be realized for the benefit of the country,” Akinteye concluded, affirming NANS’s commitment to promoting self-sufficiency, economic development, and environmental sustainability.
