The Nimbe Adedipe Library (NAL) inaugurated an E-books and Journal Exhibition on July 30, 2024, at the College of Plant Science and Crop Production (COLPLANT) Foyer.
This event underscores the university’s ongoing commitment to fostering a robust academic environment through enhanced access to digital resources.
The exhibition’s opening ceremony was marked by noteworthy addresses and commendations.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Olukayode Akinyemi, lauded the proactive leadership of the University Librarian, Prof. Abayomi Owolabi.
In his speech, Prof. Akinyemi, who also serves as the Chairman of the Board of NAL, emphasized the university’s strides in expanding its E-Resources portfolio. He urged all Deans to advocate for the utilization of E-books among faculty members on their respective platforms.
Prof. Owolabi, in his remarks, elucidated the primary objective of the exhibition—to heighten awareness about the extensive array of resources available within the library.
He highlighted that the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) subscribes to over eight prestigious E-Resources, including Ebscohost, ScienceDirect, ProQuest, Research4Life, Community of Biologists, Sabinet, SpringerLink, DOAB (Directory of Open Access Books), DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals), and AJOL (African Journals Online).
“The exhibition seeks to enhance research visibility and output across the university,” Prof. Owolabi stated.
He further emphasized that these resources are accessible to staff and students from any location, regardless of the low current usage rates.
Representing the Dean of COLPLANT, the Deputy Dean, Prof. Adewale Salau, expressed optimism about the exhibition’s potential benefits for both students and staff.
He also highlighted the university’s progressive standing in Nigeria’s academic landscape. Prof. Salau’s message underscored the critical role such initiatives play in bolstering the university’s research capabilities and overall academic prestige.
The E-books and Journal Exhibition is a testament to NAL’s dedication to supporting the university’s mission of academic excellence. By providing a platform for students and staff to explore a wealth of digital resources, the exhibition aims to foster a culture of research and innovation.
The proactive measures and commendations observed during the event are anticipated to drive increased engagement with the library’s E-Resources, thereby contributing to the university’s research output and global academic standing.
