My School Choice-Episode-1- Budget (Series)

By Yinka Ogunde

Atinuke and Funke attend the same church. They are good friends. Tinuke’s pretty daughter attends an exclusive boarding school. They are well taken care of and it is a great place to learn.

Funke is trying to look for a good school for her daughter and Tinuke recommends her daughter’s school.

Funke loves the idea. Great brand name. Excellent facilities…a dream school for her daughter.

There is just one small snag…COVID 19.

Yes, Covid has altered the family finance and it is not a situation that she wants to share with anyone.

Akin’s salary has been slashed by nearly 50% and the family is trying to adjust. Akin nearly brought down the roof when Funke dared to suggest that their daughter Tiffany should write the Entrance Examination.

BUDGET!  BUDGET!

Today I want to focus on Budget and School choice.

No matter how good a school maybe, if the school fees does not align with your family budget, there will be chaos and stress within the family.

The first thing I will advise you do is :

Make a list of what you need from a school. Have a mental picture of the kind of school you want and begin the search.

If you choose a school that does not align with your family budget and the family is not prepared to cut down expenditure on other things, you may end up owing perpetually.

A lot of schools are being owed large sums by parents who simply disappear when fees cannot be paid. It can also cause the children emotional distress when fees are not paid.

Choose wisely

There are a lot of great schools around.
