The energy was electric at Fehintola Event & Rental Services on Wednesday, 13th March, 2024 as Hubert Ogunde Memorial School hosted its 4th Biennial Inter-House Sports Competition. The annual event, a cornerstone of school spirit and friendly competition, saw students from all four houses; Blue House Chief (Mrs). Barr. The event was kicked off with the Passing of the Torch of Unity from the Blue House Captain to the Green House Captain to the Red House Captain to the Yellow House Captain, then to the Proprietress (Mrs Abosede Oloyede) and then to the Father of the Day (Mr. Cyril Mgbamola) who then declared the ceremony open.

She also said that sports create job opportunities and contributes to economic growth.

She further encouraged parents to “support the school and enrol their children in areas of sports as they do in other subjects because you never can tell what the future holds for this little ones.”

Following the Montessori philosophy, the competition wasn’t just about winning. It was a celebration of physical activity, teamwork, and the joy of sportsmanship. From the opening march-past, a vibrant display of house colours and enthusiastic cheers, the atmosphere was buzzing.

The Pupils and Students participated in a variety of events such as 25 metres race, 75 metres race, picking the balls, wheel barrow race, 100 metres junior & senior, 200 metres race, high jump, long jump, tower building, elephant race, egg and spoon, fill in the bottle, mini bicycle race, sack race, relay race, invited schools relay race and more, showcasing their skills and putting their teamwork to the test.

The relay races were a highlight, with each house fiercely determined to cross the finish line first. Cheers erupted from the sidelines, where parents and the wider school community proudly displayed their house colours and offered unwavering support.

Students and Teachers from different houses were seen cheering for each other, offering high-fives and words of encouragement. This sense of sportsmanship created a truly heartwarming atmosphere.

Among the invited schools for the relay race were Amazing Grace School, Damiland School, Iju, Breakthrough School, Akute, Mind Builders Nur. & Pry School Alausa, Sound Knowledge, Alagbole, Tess Private School, Akute Odo, Ar-Rahmon Montessori Schools, Tripple Cross Nursery and Primary School, Alausa, Broadway Junior School, Apapa and others.

Another highlight of the event was the cheerleading dance by the students. It was truly entertaining as you could see the uniformity and togetherness as the students moved their feet on the dance floor. It was truly a wonderful one.

The Red Cross and Medical Team were fully on ground from start to finish so as to attend to any emergency that occurred.

Then the result of the March past was announced and Yellow House – Ademola Olumide Ayanlowo House was declared the winner whilst Blue House – Chief (Mrs). Barr. Lilian Omotunde House came in second and Green House – Roseline Jumoke Ogunsanya House came in third.
