Mixed reactions trail siting of university in Jigawa

Residents of Jigawa State are having conflicting feelings over the location of a  Federal University of Technology in the state.

This is coming after President Muhammadu Buhari recently approved the establishment of additional five new universities specialised in technology and health.

The universities are intended to reduce the gap between doctors and patients, as well as medical research and pharmaceutical product development in the country.

The universities include the University of Technology in Jigawa and Akwa Ibom states.

Others are the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Abuja and two specialized universities in Health, Nutrition and Medical Sciences to be located at Azare, Bauchi State and Ila Orangun, Osun State.

The reaction followed the silence on the part of the Federal Government that refused to make pronouncements on what side the university would be located in the Jigawa State.

Already, the atmosphere in the state is fully charged over arguments of where to site the university throughout the social media and pages of some newspapers

Some social media users are of the opinion that considerations must be given to the emirates while others are of the belief that senatorial districts are to be considered for the university.

According to DAILY POST, some Facebook users’ react.

Abubakar said “there is no best place for the university to be situated like Ringim town.

Umar in his Facebook account said “Ringim is the most suitable place for the citing of the University because is the only emirate headquarter that do not have degree or HND awarding institution”

Mansur Ahmad said, “Gumel is the best place for the proposed University of Technology.”

According to Ibrahim “Congratulations Federal University of Technology, Ringim (FUTRIN)”.

Another Facebook user, Musa Auyo said, “Auyo is the best place for the University”.
