Ministry probes alleged beating of Abuja pupil to death

The Federal Ministry of Education has inaugurated a committee to investigate the death of 13-year-old Nuhu Yahaya, a Junior Secondary School II student of the Federal Government College Kwali, Abuja.

This was disclosed in a statement on Wednesday signed by the ministry’s Director of Press, Ben Goong, titled “Education Ministry confirms the death of master Nuhu Yahaya, JSS 2 student of Federal Government College, Kwali.”

The PUNCH had reported that a teacher at the school located in the Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja simply identified as Mrs Gibson had allegedly beaten Yahaya to death over failure of the student to do his assignment.

The teacher had given him a punishment to serve and had later used a bucket handle on him.
He was said to have been hit many times.

The ministry, however, warned that while it is launching a probe into the case, the public should avoid speculations on the cause of the student’s death.
