Lecturer, Students Coming From Vigil Kidnapped By Gunmen

A lecturer and two students from the newly established Kogi State University of Science and Technology, Itakpe, have been kidnapped by armed men suspected of being kidnappers.

According to CRIMECHANNEL, the students and lecturer were whisked away by the notorious kidnappers in the early hours of Monday, Aug. 30.

Eye witness account said the victims were kidnapped while returning from a  vigil at the Living Faith Church Osara, a distance of about five minutes drive from their school.

“They were abducted at Abuja, Lokoja – Okene highway on their way back to school and forcefully dragged them into the forest, ” the source said.

A community leader in Osara, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, confirmed the incident. He described the highway as a very dangerous one, adding that motorists’ can not ply the roads at night.

He said, “in this year alone, not less than 12 cases of robbery and kidnapping have been recorded in the area. The people leaving in the community where the University is located are daily living in fear.”

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer of Kogi State Police Command, Willy Aya, when contacted by Journalists said he hasn’t being briefed on the incident, he, however, said that the Police will investigate the matter.
