Lebanese International School – Educational Diversity for Honing Potentials

Lebanese International School is
a private school in Yaba, Lagos, Nigeria. There are several learning grades in
LIS, ranging from kindergarten to twelfth grade. The school’s curriculum is
mainly British based. The formal language for teaching is English, but on the
school premises, both Arabic and English are allowed.

The School came into inception in
1964 to tackle the need for an educational institution that caters to the
children of the community. The idea came from a group of eminent and
distinguished members of the Lebanese Community assisted by the Embassy of
Lebanon, in Yaba, Lagos at that time. Today, the school gives admission to
other members of the International Community.

Lebanese International School is a CIE registered centre with experienced Cambridge certified teachers in all programmes. This guarantees a learning environment where every student is assisted to discover his or her academic potential in study, sports, and personal development.

The school is home to a lot of
students from different backgrounds, cultures, religions and races of all
kinds, but in all, the school’s founding values are love, oneness and harmony
irrespective of creed, belief or race.

Lebanese Community School is home to students aged 3-18 years from several countries and interact well in an atmosphere of fraternity and cultural harmony. Admission to the school is based on academic potential or proven educational ability. It is not based on ethnicity, religion or social background.

Curriculum

Lebanese Community
School operates the British Curriculum,
making its students be at par with their contemporaries in other foreign
countries. It also adopts the Cambridge
International Examination Curriculum
for all academic ranging from Pre-school
(Nursery – KG 2), Key stage 1 (Grades 1-3), Key stage 2 (Grades 4-6), Checkpoint
Programme (Grades 7-8), IGCSE Programme (Grades 9-10), and Advanced Level
Programme (Grades 11-12)

The School’s Facilities

Lebanese International School prides itself as one of the leading schools in Nigeria with regards to educational infrastructures, school amenities, and more. The school’s facilities include an auditorium, computer laboratory, a television room and an art room, an indoor gymnasium and laboratories for science courses such as Biology, Chemistry and Physics. The school also has a state of the art library and a takeaway cafeteria. This is coupled with well-structured rooms fitted with air conditioners and blackboards, as well as staff rooms for teachers and HODs.

International
Examinations Offered.

LIS provides tenth, eleventh and
twelfth grade students the opportunity to take the SAT 1, SAT 11, TOEFL, as well as University
of Cambridge International Examinations
such as IGCSE, AS Level and A Level examinations to
qualify for admittance into foreign universities. Many of the graduates of LIS
proceed to attend colleges in Europe, Singapore, U.S and Canada.

Extra-Curricular
Activities

Mental and physical fitness is
expedient to grooming a balanced student. This is why Lebanese International
School has a well planned out schedule to ensure that a child grows in several
other areas as learning does not end within the four walls of the classroom.
Some of the activities are English, Arabic, French and other foreign languages,
Inter-House Sports, Special Music Class Art and Craft, Chess, Ballet.

Management and Association

Lebanese Community School is run
by a board of trustees presided on by the Lebanese Consul in General, the
school also have an organised Parents Teachers Association where the opinions
and views of parents counts and matter in school policies and decisions.

Entrance
Examination Details

Lebanese International School
entrance exam dates have been slated for the 3rd Saturdays of January, February, March, April and May. Walk-in Assessment is also accepted.

The venue for the exams will be
in the school hall. The school is located at 6 Maye St, Yaba,
Oworonshoki.
