“LASU will dominate and win FASU Games” — LASU Provost, CMD Rally Support

In an electrifying buildup to the 11th FASU Games, the Provost of Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM), Professor Abiodun Adewuya, and the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Professor Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo, have made a resounding declaration: Lagos State University (LASU) is not just co-hosting the prestigious event with the University of Lagos, but is determined to host and win.

The Provost and CMD, represented by Deputy Provost, Professor Olufemi Idowu, and the Director of Clinical Science and Training/Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee, Professor Adebowale Adekoya, respectively, delivered stirring welcome addresses at various venues within the campus.

They expressed profound gratitude to the LASU Management, under the visionary leadership of Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, for securing the hosting rights alongside the University of Lagos, and rallied ‘Team LASU’ to triumph in the competition.

The representatives committed to the unwavering support of the medical teams from LASUCOM and LASUTH, including enthusiastic volunteers from the medical student body.

Deputy Provost, Professor Idowu, emphasized the unifying power of the games, stating, “The game is to unite us in Lagos, Nigeria, and Africa. We are going to compete, compete to win, compete to excel.”

Echoing this sentiment, Professor Adekoya added, “I said it earlier that the University is hosting to win. The inspection team says we are ready. Why are we co-hosting? Maybe the next edition will be in LASU. Thank you for your time.”

The Chairman of the Ad-hoc Committee on Sensitization Rally, Professor Senapon Bak’re, also briefed the dignitaries on the purpose of the awareness campaign. Subsequently, customized T-shirts were presented to the Provost and the College Secretary, Mr. Adelaja Oyebanjo, by Professor Bak’re and the Chairman of the Media and Publicity Sub-Committee, Professor Sunday Alawode, respectively.

Car stickers and handbills for the FASU Games were handed over to Dr. Adetokunbo Ogunkoya to further amplify awareness within and outside the college.

Comrade Obayemi Ayobami, Vice President of the Lagos State University Students’ Union at LASUCOM, urged all medical students to support the sporting activities, participate actively, and be part of the sensitization efforts.

The rally at LASU’s Ojo campus was equally vibrant, with the team being warmly received by the Alternate Chairman/Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, Professor Adenike Omotunde Boyo, following a brief report on the Ikeja rally by Professor Senapon Bak’re. Other prominent university officials in attendance included Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic, Professor Olufunsho Abayomi Omobitan, Special Assistant to the Vice Chancellor and Deputy Registrar (Vice Chancellor’s Office), Dr. Lateef Salami, and Coordinator of the Centre for Information and Public Relations, Mrs. Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile, among others.

Dr. Lateef Shekoni, Deputy Registrar in the Vice Chancellor’s Office, delivered the vote of thanks, underscoring the university’s sixth strategic goal under Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello’s administration: promoting participation in sports and recreational activities.

This vibrant rally and the steadfast commitment of LASU’s leadership and community signal a robust preparation and an unyielding spirit to not only host but to emerge victorious in the upcoming FASU Games.
