LASU Sets Benchmark for E-Voting as Vice Chancellor Applauds Election Winners

The Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, has extended her heartfelt congratulations to the newly elected leaders of the Lagos State University Students Union (LASUSU).

The elections, which took place on Thursday, August 8th, and Friday, August 9th, 2024, have been hailed as a paragon of transparency and fairness.

Foremost among the congratulated is Comrade Adebobola Ayomide Stephen, affectionately dubbed “Joldie,” who has been elected the 35th President of LASUSU.

Alongside him, Hon. Adedeji Adeniyi, known as “Energetic,” has been elected the Speaker of the Students Parliamentary Council. Prof. Olatunji-Bello emphasized the integrity of the election process, which she described as free, fair, and credible, thus ensuring a widely accepted outcome.

Prof. Olatunji-Bello reaffirmed her commitment to collaborating with the newly elected leaders to prioritize and protect the interests of LASU’s world-class student body. She praised the spirit of sportsmanship displayed by all candidates, particularly those who did not win, acknowledging their maturity and acceptance of the electoral results.

“In this election, there are no losers; every candidate is a winner,” she remarked.

The VC also lauded the Independent Electoral Committee for their stellar role in organizing an impeccable election. She expressed that their efforts will be remembered kindly by posterity for delivering an election that genuinely reflects the students’ will.

Special acknowledgments were directed towards key university figures who were instrumental in the election’s success.

Prof. Toyin Enikuomehin, Director of DICT, and his team, Dr. Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, Acting Dean of the Students Affairs Division, the Security Unit, and the Centre for Information and Public Relations, were all commended for their critical roles.

Prof. Olatunji-Bello concluded by celebrating the successful implementation of the electronic voting process, positioning LASU as a leader in enhancing the credibility of elections in Nigeria through technological advancements.
